What if.......?

Rhonda and Cindy are teaching a class at the shop beginning in February, based on a quilt from Kaffe Fassett's Quilts in Sweden Book. The quilt has a medallion center and a series of borders. The format of the quilt lends itself to lots of color and design choices, Rhonda and Cindy are planning on helping the students mix up both fabrics and blocks to make a classroom of unique quilts.  The picture below is from Taunton Press and shows the original quilt.

Rhonda sent me a picture of one of the medallion centers they are working on for student inspiration......this one is in batiks

Our own little corner of Mongolia

We are privileged at the shop to know Maggie Ball of Dragonfly Quilts! Maggie is an award winning quilter and excellent teacher and pattern designer. And, she has a connection to Mongolia. She first went to Mongolia in 2003 to help teach women to quilt and has left a piece of her heart there on a regular basis since then. You can read more about her story on her website  and you can help. The quilts pictured feature the Ozlii motif, a traditional Mongolian motif which brings long life and prosperity.

Thanks Heather...

We recently received this little gem to display in the shop for a while. The quilt is made from a set of batik 2 1/2" strips from a free pattern on the Better Homes and Garden site.  While the original quilt is designed to be a quick patriotic quilt - I really like Heather's batik version.  Other options?  what about a Jewel toned batik set of strips on a black background or a set of red and grey strips on a taupe background?
