I think I shall never see........
I don't know if everyone else's fifth grade teacher made them memorize the "tree poem"...by Joyce Kilmer, but I suspect not only am I the one, and also suspect that on a spring day here at Port Gamble, that he is correct - there is nothing as lovely as a tree. It is Arbor Day here at Port Gamble - and we are getting new trees in front of the shop.We are having 6 maple trees planted between the shop and the street. To satisfy practicality these are fast growing maples that will only need a few years to begin to give us a little shade in the summer from the afternoon sun.
To satisfy the eye, these maples will turn a such brilliant red in the fall that according to the guy at Valley Nursery "a fire engine would be jealous". So in a little neighborhood already known for fall color....we will be adding a few more leaves.
And to satisfy the heart, how can we not love something that will be around to give pleasure to our children, our grandchildren and their children. Happy Arbor Day!
