A bounty of beautiful baskets
I am always the quilter in the used book store, picking out the quilting books that have 101 Baskets or some such title. I love the old Amish basket quilts with intense baskets on black and I am equally fond of basket blocks with big mushy florals. Rhonda has just finished the shop sample for our Basket block of the Month that falls somewhere in between. Some almost solid baskets and stars, and some some florals. Her piecing is perfect and the little appliqued handles are just what this geometrically driven quilt needs!Rhonda's quilt is machine quilted, but she choose traditional clamshell quilting, a motif that gives a little nod to the more "baskety days" of quilting, when this was such a popular hand quilting motif.
Each block has a star, with four baskets in the corners. Each month is a different basket, and a different combination of fabrics. Because of the way the quilt is set, the there is a secondary basket pattern formed in each block intersection, that has four different baskets in each one.
