Attic Windows Block Made Easy

I have always loved the Attic Windows block - and have learned the necessary skills to make the "Y-seam" the traditional block construction requires, but.......Karin Hellaby has come up with a great construction technique that makes these blocks quick and easy.

Karin's book - Sew Simple Attic Windows was the source of the pattern for our latest shop sample.

The inspiration for this quilt came from a group of wonderful light batiks from Island Batiks. We added purple and have a wonderfully soft quilt with lots of depth and texture.
The blocks are actually created with a folding technique (no "Y-seams") and our sample maker Carol assures us that if you have the cutting done - you can make the blocks for a lap-sized quilt in an afternoon. Well, OK- think that if it takes Carol an afternoon, it would take me at least a day. But, much faster than the traditional construction method.
You can see that the folded block in the fabric, but it is not meant to stand out as a design element, so in our shop sample, Carol simply allowed her quilting designs to go right over the fold.
