Little Belle Skirt and the Hexagon Sewing Machine
My granddaughters are 3 1/2 and love "twirly skirts". So of course the last time they were here at the fabric store my daughter chose a pattern and they picked out fabric for new skirt from the Little Belle Skirts pattern from Favorite Things. They chose bright fabric including Monsters in the Closet fabric by Scott Jarrard for Free Spirit fabrics. My daughter also made an extra skirt for the shop from the Whimsy Collection by Fig Tree Quilts for Moda. The great thing about this skirt is that by adjusting the elastic the skirt can be made to ride at the waist or on the hips, and the little belt with the bow is fastened with velcro in the back - making it an easy accessory.
The other part of the story is the Hexagon Sewing Machine the skirt is sitting on. This is a very sweet little 3/4 size sewing machine manufactured by the Standard Sewing Machine Company in Ohio, probably dating from around 1920 or so. And although I love my Bernina - it certainly lacks quite a bit of style and elegance compared to this wonderful machine.
Look at the scrolling on the metal plates and gorgeous decals.... they turn a machine made for utility into a work of art! The decals on this machine are all in good shape and still very bright and colorful.
