Autumn is a second spring.....

"Autumn is a second spring where every leaf is a flower"
Albert Camus

Autumn is my favorite season of the year and I was glad to notice that the nip of fall can be felt in the early morning and the tops of the maple trees here in Port Gamble are beginning to take on a faint blush of red. I also knew it must be getting close to autumn, because Lauretta brought by new table runners for the shop for the season. The runners feature two fabrics from the Nutmeg group from Robert Kaufman Fabrics.

We are still working on new pattern covers, the latest project is Barbara Stevenson's Bricks and Stones Pattern. Jerry photographed the table runner sized sample over the picket fence outside the cemetery here at Port Gamble.  You can see some of the old monuments and stones in the background.

The Buena Vista Cemetery here sits on the top of the bluff and has a spectacular view. The cemetery dates from 1856 when U.S. Navy Coxswain Gustave Englebrecht of the U.S.S. Massachusetts died in a skirmish with Haida (Native American) raiders. Englebrecht is credited with being the first U.S. Navy man killed in the Pacific.
